Brazilian Jiu Jitsu

Brazilian jiu jitsu (BJJ No Gi) is a martial art. The aim is to get the opponent to the floor as quickly as possible and then to continue the fight on the floor. The idea underlying this discipline is that with the right skills and moves a small or weaker person can defend himself against a stronger and larger person.

The training sessions consist of three elements: the warming up, skills and sparring. The warming up entails exercises specific to BJJ No Gi* that ensure better blood flow to the muscles, diminishing the likelihood of injury during training. Following the warming up, time is devoted to skills training and BJJ moves and principles are practised with a partner. The last part of the training session involves sparring. Sparring is an important component of BJJ in which the exercises and principles taught earlier in the lesson are applied in practice against a moving opponent.

*BJJ No Gi means: no traditional kimono is worn.
